‘Being Imperfectly Perfect for me is knowing and accepting your flaws and being ok with them. You haven’t completely got your stuff together, you’re not completely there but you’re ok with it because everything is a slow process. Progress is a slow process. That’s ok. I’m at a place now where I’m content with my flaws. It is what it is. I consistently try and build and become a better person despite any form of fame or position I’ve had, money regardless. It’s just being happy with yourself regardless of any imperfections’ - Christian Alozie

'I had to shut half of me off or I don't believe I would've survived being thrown into fame so quick' with Suzanne Shaw.

Listen to this episode from ImperfectlyPerfect Podcast on Spotify. Suzanne Shaw shot to instant fame in 2001 as part of the winning pop group 'Hearsay' on the very first reality show 'Popstars' in the UK. What followed was a whirlwind career.

Suzanne Shaw shot to instant fame in 2001 as part of the winning pop group ‘Hearsay’ on the very first reality show ‘Popstars’ in the UK. What followed was a whirlwind career. The group’s debut single was the fastest selling non-charitable record in UK chart history, selling over 1.3 million copies. They went on to have 2 number one records and 4 top 10 hits. They had their own Saturday night TV show Hear’say It’s Saturday, performed at the Royal Variety Show with Elton John, and headlined their own hit UK tour. When they split in 2003, Suzanne carved a successful career in musical theatre, plays and television.

At the start of 2020, Suzanne spoke openly about her battle with mental health and that by making some big lifestyle changes it helped reduce her depression and anxiety.

Such an in depth conversation this week with Suzanne, as Founder Glenn Marsden discusses not only a career that has seen some incredible highlights but also what comes with being thrust into stardom at such heights and so quickly. We hear about the effects it can have on your mental wellbeing and how Suzanne navigated through this period, on one hand enjoying her passion of performing on stage but on the other finding herself having to shut half of herself off due to seeing weekly articles on her private life rather than what she was there to do.

We also hear all about her latest project the 'Shaw Happy Plan' in which from such an overwhelming response from her followers and the media with Suzanne documenting her own journey, she developed a movement through her social platform to help so many others worldwide with lifestyle habits and changes.

To find out more information about Suzanne and to keep up to date with her latest projects, you can find her across her social media platforms at: @suzi_shaw

Be sure to also make a donation through her funding page via her socials as she takes on her first Marathon in aid of raising funds for Mental Health.

She will be running 19 hours for the 19 people who take their lives everyday in the UK. All proceeds will go to the Samaritans.

‘Nobody is perfect. I think people are terrified to grow and get outside of their comfort zone because they are so caught up in trying to portray perfection. The minute I just went, This is Bullshit, I am not perfect. Some days I’m a complete mess. For me, my social media is being authentic to who I am. There will be days when I just show up and I’ll go into my group and I’ll be like; I don’t feel good. I am this ball of energy, but I’m also like this little softie as well. Don’t be afraid, it’s not a weakness. When you acknowledge it, that’s the first step to change.
For me, I just want to use the platforms that I do have to 1: empower people and 2: to take away that pressure that people put on themselves.’

‘Being honest. Being an honest person. I still do and try to be something I am not if I am around a certain environment or if I am speaking to certain people because I feel I am such a terrible person at wanting people to like me, but the minute I am honest, that is ME, that is my RAW. That’s who I am. I have my flaws, I have my faults, I can’t know everything, I can’t be able to do everything but at the same time now give myself the credit where credit is due. So it’s being honest, imperfectly perfect’ - @suzi_shaw

Brittney Harper is a multidimensional woman, making her mark in Ministry as an Author, Entrepreneur, TV personality, spirit-led teacher of God’s Word and Prophetic Intercessor. As a much-in-demand speaker and teacher of the gospel and prophetic voice to many, she continues to travel both nationally and inter-nationally to fulfill her mandated mission: to transform lives, heal hearts, encourage others to find and live in purpose, teach deeper truths and show others the way to live abundantly through Christ.

For those who have never felt or understood spirituality, make sure to give the episode a listen. If there is a commonality between so many people that we have interviewed, through those dark periods of adversity they have come out the other side believing in something far bigger than themselves. This episode we chat with Britian’s very own singer-songwriter Jamelia. Jamelia is not only an incredible advocate for people speaking up but somebody who has sold millions of albums and scored number one’s all over the world. She has won multiple awards including 4 Mobo’s a Q award and an Ivor Novello.

She’s appeared on programmes on every major UK TV channel and hit the screens on countless movies both in front and her music as soundtracks and tv screens. Such a powerful episode as we delve into getting to know the person behind the public persona that people think they know and go behind the scenes to learn what it is like to feel like you are living almost a dual life at the same time and what comes with that.

We learn about Jamelia's upbringing to then being thrust into the limelight after signing her first record deal at 15 and what comes with navigating through an industry when all eyes are on you and we hear about a shift into the TV industry later on through her career where she began to see a negative side of an experience in the entertainment industry to where she first experienced struggles with her own mental health after having the realisation that she seemed to be loved when entertaining through music but not when on one of Britains biggest daytime talk shows on a panel with an opinion.

Such a powerful, raw and open conversation as we continue to find out how Jamelia worked through that period of time and healed those emotional struggles and where she is now.

‘I think being Imperfectly Perfect is beautiful. Allowing everyone around you to be honest. We are all weird. We are all a bit quirky and that’s beautiful. Let’s celebrate that. Go out into the world and be exactly who you are. Dr Seuss said; ‘Those who matter, don’t mind and those who mind, don’t matter’and that’s exactly how I want my children and myself. The best thing we can do now is to pass these messages or these lessons on to our children and from the jump, you be exactly who you are. Are you honest? Are you allowing yourself to be honest? - Jamelia
